NRA concerned, disappointed over Federal Reserve's decision on ...

The National Restaurant Association expressed concern and disappointment over the Federal Reserve's June 29 decision to cap the "swipe fees" that merchants pay for debit-card transactions at 21 cents per transaction. That's below the average 44 cents that merchants pay for debit charges today, but a significant increase over the 12-cent swipe-fee cap that the Federal Reserve proposed in December.

The regulation, which will take effect Oct. 1, isn't in line with Congress's intent to make debit-card fees "reasonable and proportional" to the cost of processing debit charges, the Association said.

?The Federal Reserve appears to have caved to lobbying by the big banks and debit-card companies and ignored the spirit of last year?s Durbin Amendment, which was aimed at fixing a broken U.S. debit-fee market and bringing fairness to merchants and consumers who have no control over rising swipe fees,? said Scott DeFife, executive vice president of policy and government affairs for the National Restaurant Association.

By capping fees, the regulation will provide many restaurants with some financial relief from one of the fastest-rising and most uncontrollable costs involved in running a restaurant business.

However, the relief is not nearly as significant as the National Restaurant Association and its allies in the merchant community had hoped, and for some segments of the industry, there may be little if any immediate savings.

?We are disappointed that the final fee cap rose as much as it did from the Fed?s proposed rule,? DeFife said. ?While the Fed?s rule acknowledges that the card companies? practices have resulted in a broken market, and while the new cap will ensure that card companies cannot continue to arbitrarily increase debit interchange rates, this rule will not provide businesses and consumers with the savings they deserve under the law.?

After years of complaints from the National Restaurant Association and other merchant groups about uncontrollable and rising interchange fees for their members, Congress passed the Durbin Amendment in 2010 to give the Federal Reserve the power to regulate interchange fees for debit cards.

The Durbin Amendment was included in the Dodd-Frank financial services reform bill Congress passed last year. The December action from the Federal Reserve resulted in months of intense lobbying by banking interests to overturn the Fed?s proposal.

The Durbin Amendment -- named for its top champion in Congress, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) -- charged the Federal Reserve with ensuring that debit-card fees are ?reasonable and proportional? to the cost of processing transactions.

?We are grateful to Senator Durbin for his leadership throughout this two-year process to change the status quo of a broken debit-fee market,? DeFife added. ?We obviously must continue to work to educate policymakers on the stranglehold that the card companies have on the American consumer.?

The Durbin Amendment also allowed businesses to set a $10 minimum for credit-card payments, and offer discounts to customers who pay in cash. These benefits have been in effect since last summer.

In Burma, a woman's inner freedom, unbroken by fear (The Christian Science Monitor)

Many a visitor to Burma (Myanmar) who sees the headquarters of Aung San Suu Kyi?s political party calls it a ?cowshed.? The ramshackle structure is hardly a symbol of her great ability to keep alive the people?s hopes for democracy in a country run by despots.

So where does Ms. Suu Kyi?s strength lie in leading a dissident movement despite being isolated for 15 years, either in prison or under house arrest?

The answer can be found in a talk recorded in secret for the BBC???s ???Reith Lectures,??

Suu Kyi?s insights about her inner strength build on the works and writings of previous freedom fighters, such as Vaclav Havel. But they are unique to her experience as the daughter of modern Burma?s founder, someone raised in a Christian school but who lives in a Buddhist country that has been in simmering revolution since 1988.

These lectures could not be better timed to inspire the faltering Arab Spring ? as well as the Burmese.

She says a basic human right is freedom from fear, something that Arabs learned quickly after Tunisia?s revolution in January. For her, living under a repressive regime, ?fear is the first adversary we have to get past when we set out to battle for freedom, and often it is the one that remains until the very end.?

But, she adds, people struggling for liberty need not be completely free of fear to carry on. She has discovered that her fellow dissidents ???pretend to be unafraid as they go about their duties and pretend not to see that their comrades are also pretending.??

?This is not hypocrisy,? explains the Nobel Peace Prize winner. ?This is courage that has to be renewed consciously from day to day and moment to moment. This is how the battle for freedom has to be fought until such time as we have the right to be free from the fear imposed by brutality and injustice.?

She tells of the first autobiography that she ever read, at age 13, about a Hungarian woman who fell afoul of a communist purge in the 1950s but who was able to keep her mind sharp and spirit unbroken despite being isolated.

Any dissident with a passion for liberty must be ready ?to live without,? says Suu Kyi, and make a conscious choice for personal suffering. This was not easy for her, as she often thought of herself as someone easily ?laid low by anxiety and uncertainty.?

But, she says, ?I felt almost as a physical force the strong bond that linked those of us who had only our inner resources to fall back on when we were most in need of strength and endurance.?

When asked by Burmese after her house arrest how it felt to be free, she responded that she was no different ?because my mind had always been free.?

While such inner strength comes from following one?s conscience, Suu Kyi warns that spiritual freedom can often lead to being passive about the practical struggle to fight for human rights and the rule of law.

Such personal contentment must be resisted. She cites the recent history of Buddhist monks in Burma who are spiritually free but then express a loving kindness toward the people by protesting in the streets for basic rights.

And she repeats the story of the Tunisian vegetable vendor who was so humiliated by police that he lit himself on fire, ?showing the world that his right to human dignity was more precious to him than life itself.? A similar story of a young Burmese man killed by police in 1988 sparked that nation?s protests and led to Suu Kyi?s rise as the champion for democracy.

Compared with those of Egypt and Tunisia, Burma?s revolution has not been successful because its soldiers are willing to shoot demonstrators and the country lacks digital communications to the outside world, she says.

For now, the Burmese must continue to ?live like free people in an unfree nation,? and perhaps wait for a new generation to achieve liberty.

Her lectures reveal the spiritual revolution needed to create that inner freedom, which eventually leads to political liberty.

She doesn?t care that people refer to the headquarters of her National League for Democracy as a cowshed. After all, she notes in a reference to the birth of Jesus, ?Didn?t one of the most influential movements in the world begin in a cowshed??

What Does It Mean To Be Feminine?

Hypnosis can help you assert your feminine side whether you are a boyish female, a busy career woman or a transsexual. This therapy allows you to connect with your inner self and find the woman who lies within. The relaxed state that you will experience through this approach to hypnosis will train you to be aware and be grateful for your feminine beauty.

But then again what does it take to be feminine?

Is it in the clothes or shoes people wear? Is it in the make-up or the perfumed used? Is it in the shape of your body, the curves you have or the texture of your skin? Is it in the length of your hair or your hairstyle? Femininity does not lie on physical aspects. Femininity is something innate in you. It is a sense of being assured of your individuality. Being feminine should come naturally. Hypnosis can help you by allowing you to get in touch with your emotions.

Through hypnosis you will be endowed with feminine characteristics. These characteristics will be embedded in your subconscious mind and you will be able to act according to what is inculcated in your mind as the way a feminine should act. The feminine characteristics suggested into your subconscious my well trigger your body hormones to have these feminine characteristics.

This is not easy. Factors outside could really be a hindrance to your success. It cannot be denied that social stigma towards the female sex is prevalent, more so toward transsexuals. Society frowns upon males acting and looking like females. These negative forces will try to rob you of your self-confidence and de-motivate you from achieving total femininity. You may have gone through medical procedures to look feminine but you should also feel feminine in order to radiate that powerful female aura. Hypnosis can help you resolve this issue.

Hypnosis tackles not only your physical aspect but your mental and emotional as well thereby giving you full feminization. It allows you to go through the puzzle in your head, face the obstacles and discover solutions for you to achieve overall satisfaction as a complete feminine. Along the way, things or events may confuse you or lead you to doubt what you are doing but you have to be firm. If you want to be totally feminine then you must work hard to be one. You must stand for what you want.

Through feminine hypnosis you will be able to relax your mind and ponder on what you really want to achieve. The process will help you find the person you wanted to become. In your relaxed state, you will be able to face your condition, be aware of the characteristics you want to imbibe and act on it. Through it, you will become the person you wanted to be leading a life that you?ve always wanted. The power of your mind is very important. You must have the will to act on what you have decided.

Dwayne Hartmann was born in Germany and traveled around Asia studying every psychological teaching he could find, focusing on those that utilized trance states to change the inner nature of the students. He has now condensed all of this knowledge about the many forms of self-hypnosis including feminizing with self hypnosis into a new understanding of self-hypnosis and has written a definitive e- book which is available at his website along with a free 10 part email mini-course.

Brooke Mueller Lands 55K A Month & Other News

Maybe the only person ?winning? right now is Charlie Sheen?s ex-wife, who recently landed a court order for over $50,000 a month in child support. This isn?t the good old-fashioned child support we?re used to hearing about. The money will actually be garnished from any wages owed to Sheen from his work on Two And A Half Men. In a major legal victory for Mueller, her lawyers managed to get the insane amount sent directly to her for support of their children. That kind of money actually makes me wonder how much his overall income from the show actually is. If $55,000 isn?t the entire check, how much does he get? Sheesh. Get the details over at TMZ. HAITI SOCIO-ECONOMIC POLICY JOB CREATION PROPOSAL | HAITIAN-TRUTH ...

SUBMITTED b User name eduj on June 27th

HAITI SOCIO-ECONOMIC POLICY JOB CREATION PROPOSAL

Haiti is one the poorest country in the world. Approximately 70% of all Haitians depend on the agriculture sector, mainly small-scale subsistence farming, and remains vulnerable to damage from frequent natural disasters, exacerbated by the country?s widespread deforestation.

A macroenomic program developed in 2005 with the help of the international monetary fund helped the economy grow 1.8% in 2006, the highest growth rate since 1999. Haiti suffers from higher inflation than similar low-income countries, a lack of investment (increasing however since the recent presidential seating), and a severe trade deficit. In 2005, Haiti paid its debts to the world bank, paving the way for reengagement with the Bank. The government relies on formal international economic assistance for fiscal sustainability. In 2006, Haiti held a successful donors conference in which the total aid pledged exceeded Haiti?s request. Remmitances are the primary source of foreign exchanges equaling nearly a quarter of GDP.
Faced with such daunting task how should the leaders of this country proceed in order to move this country forward to improve the condition and future prospect of this country. The answer is bold innovative socio-economic policies that seeks to re-engineer Haitian state and society.
For today?s generation, Hitler is the most hated man in history, and his regime the archetype of political evil. This view does not extend to his economic policies, however. Far from it; they are embraced by governments all around the world. The Glenview State Bank of Chicago, for example, recently praised Hitler?s economics in its monthly newsletter. In doing so, the bank discovered the hazards of praising Keynesian policies in the wrong context.
In the 1930s, Hitler was widely viewed as just another protectionist central planner who recognized the failure of the free market and the need for nationally guided economic development. Proto-Keynesian socialist economist Joan Robinson wrote that ?Hitler found a cure against unemployment before Keynes was finished explaining it.?
What were those economic policies? He suspended the gold standard, embarked on huge public works programs like Autobahns, protected industry from foreign competition, expanded credit, instituted jobs programs, bullied the private sector on prices and production decisions, vastly expanded the military, enforced capital controls, instituted family planning, brought about national health care and unemployment insurance, imposed education standards. The Nazi interventionist program was essential to the regime?s rejection of the market economy and its embrace of socialism in one country.
Haiti has a mercantile economy that has embraced a free market economy its own detriment. While many in the United State decry the utility of the government and clammer for less and less government we in Haiti should go the opposite direction and follow a policy of aggressive government planning in all facet of society. Haiti is a top-down country that no longer has the luxury of a laisser-faire attitude toward the welfare of the state. Coruption is pervasive and has a chokehold on the running of the state.
According to a World Bank report in 2006, ?In Haiti, the process of business regulations is complex and customs procedures are lengthy.?On average, opening a business took 204 days. For comparison, the average was 73.3 days in Latin America and 16.3 days in OECD countries. It took an estimated 5 years and 65 bureaucratic procedures for a private person to buy land from the state. It took 683 days to register a property[All Latin American and Caribbean countries except Cuba and Venezuela enjoyed much more economic freedom than Haiti on the Index of Economic Freedom of 2006.
The political elite is also involved in various criminal businesses. Leading members of the police have cooperated with the illegal drug trade in Haiti since the 1980s. The service D?intelligence national, nominally a counter-narcotics agency created after the fall of jean-claude Duvalier, participated in drug trafficking. After the 1991 coup which toppled Aristide for the first time, members of the coup regime, notably Chief of National Policy, Michel Francois were accused of drug smuggling. Later Beaudoin Ketant, a notorious international drug trafficker Jean-berthrand Aristid?s close partner, and his daughter?s godfather, claimed that Aristide ?turned the country into a narco-country; it?s a one-man show; you either pay (Aristide) or you die?.
According to the BBC, pyramid schemes ?were only real economic initiative of the Aristide years.? Estimated $200 million was lost in these scams.
As mentioned earlier Haiti is a top-down country in which the leader, president, sets the mood and tempo for the government; so it is he, the president, who is going to determine if and how we make significant inroads to development. We need not re-invent the wheel, all developing countries follow the basic blue print, with some modification, in order to move forward; we should likewise.

Key Points

THE REPUBLIC BEFORE ALL COMMON GOOD BEFORE INDIVIDIAL GOOD

1.All blood born Haitians in Haiti must possess equal rights of citizenship on the basis of the principle of self-determination of all peoples.

2. Kreole must be the primary means of government communication oral in written in all government business. However for economic survival English must be made into one of the official language and taught from primary school.

3.fellow countrymen and those who have Haitian blood, regardless of creed, color and place of birth are our countrymen. Hence no limit should be place on their citizenship, rights and obligations to the state

3. The right to choose the government and determine the laws of the State shall belong to all citizens. We therefore demand that no public office, of whatever nature, whether in the central
government, the province, or the municipality, shall be denied to anyone who has Haitian blood regardless of creed

4. We must aggressively seek to reverse the brain drain by fostering Haitian emigration bringing back our best and our brightest to serve Haiti

4.We must wage war against all economic crimes and the corrupt parliamentary administration whereby men are appointed to posts by favor of the party without regard to character and fitness.

5.We must insure that corruption is rooted out of all state apparatus and those who would corrupt the state are severely punished.

6.The State shall above all undertake to ensure that every citizen shall have the possibility of living decently and earning a livelihood.

7 The state must aggressively move toward redesigning and building a modern capital that account for the needs of its people in a modern society ; that goes as well as all other municipalities. All new construction must meet international standard

8.The first duty of every citizen must be to work mentally or physically. No individual shall do any work that offends against the interest of the community to the benefit of all.
Therefore we demand:

8. Since a state of corruption was imposes on the people who fearfully sacrifices in blood and treasure, all personal profit arising from corruption must be regarded as treason to the people. We therefore demand the total confiscation of all ill-gotten wealth arising from corruption

9. The state must take an active role in guiding the economy through efficient planning

10. The state must create national industries vital for the wellbeing of the people
We must streamline the incorporation process..We must our tax code and tax collection process all those who fail to meet their obligation to the state, are criminal traitors and must be treated as such.
11.The creation and maintenance of a sound middle-class, the immediate communalization of large stores, office building and shopping center which will be rented cheaply to small trades people, and the strongest consideration must be given to ensure that small traders shall deliver the supplies needed by the State, the provinces and municipalities and the people.

12. We Need an agrarian reform in accordance with our national requirements, and the enactment of a law to expropriate the owners with marginal compensation of any land needed for the common purpose, and the prohibition of all speculation in land.

13. We must procecute a ruthless war against those who work to the injury of the common welfare of the people and the state. Traitors, profiteers, etc., are to be punished severely, regardless of creed or race.

14. The judicial system must be reformed so that individual rights and property rights are respected and reflect Haitian common law.

15. In order to make it possible for every capable and industrious Haitian to obtain higher education, and thus the opportunity to reach into positions of leadership, the State must assume the responsibility of organizing thoroughly the entire cultural system of the people. The curricula of all educational establishments should be adapted to practical life. The conception of the State Idea (science of citizenship) must be taught in the schools from the very beginning. We demand that specially talented children of poor parents, whatever their station or occupation, be educated at the expense of the State.

16. The State has the duty to help raise the standard of living by providing affordable housing, common health centers, by prohibiting juvenile labor, by increasing physical fitness through the introduction of compulsory games and athletics, and by the greatest possible encouragement of associations concerned with the physical education of the young.

17. We should abolish of the national police and the creation of a national peoples? (conscript) army who?s purpose is to build the infrastructures of the country as well as defense of territory

18. We demand that there be a legal campaign against those who deliberate stole from the state to enrich themselves through political lies and patronage and bring them all to justice.
(b) Non-German newspapers shall only be published with the express permission of the State. They must not be published in the

COMMON GOOD BEFORE INDIVIDUAL GOOD

19. In order to carry out this program ,the creation of a strong central authority in the State, the unconditional authority by the political central parliament of the whole State and all its organizations.
The formation of professional committees and of committees representing the several sectors, to ensure that the laws promulgated by the central authority shall be carried out by the states.
The leaders of the state undertake to promote the execution of the foregoing points at all costs, if necessary at the sacrifice of their own lives.

20. The State reserves all right.

Nick Cannon: Twins Are "Great," Home Life is "Low Key" (omg!)

Double the fun!

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey might have two-month old twins, but the first-time dad said life is "low-key" in the Cannon-Carey household.

PHOTOS: Nick and Mariah's love story

"They're very good," Cannon, 30, told Us Weekly on Saturday at the Seventh Annual IRIE Weekend, a benefit for Make-A-Wish of Southern Florida, in Miami. "Great, actually. They're growing -- that's what we want! They're home right now with my wife."

PHOTOS: Celebs who got pregnant after 40

"I chill and relax, have breakfast in bed and hang out with my family," he said.

Earlier this month the America's Got Talent host told Us that Monroe and Moroccan were already taking after their mom and dad. "My son is laid back like me," he said. "My daughter's a diva like her mom!"

PHOTOS: Hollywood's new star dads

How can the first-time dad tell already that his baby girl is a diva? "When my daughter wants something, she'll let you know immediately," he laughed. "With [our son], you kind of feed him when you get around to it, and he's okay with that."

Pauly D: Jersey Shore Cast "Irreplaceable"

Despite reports of their imminent replacement at the end of the next season's filming, the Jersey Shore cast is not going anywhere just yet.

"I think we're irreplaceable," Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio said Friday.

At an appearance at the Palms in Vegas, he adds, "I don't think they could replace us. They'd just be people trying to be like us, anyway."

Mr. DelVecchio

On Friday, MTV denied the reports, with a spokesman they have "no plans to recast the show," which recently finished filming Season 4 in Italy.

"It's more of the guys getting into the drama," Pauly said of the gang's adventures in the old country. "We're used to it with the girls, but this season it's a lot of the guys … I think it was as much drama as there was in Miami."

"Yeah, we got ourselves into some serious crap, but somehow we always end up OK. There was some serious stuff going on there."

Season 4 begins August 4. The filming of Jersey Shore Season 5 is underway in Jersey. Will there be another season beyond that?

At least one cast member is game. "I'll do as many Jersey Shore's as we can," Pauly D said, "but I know everything doesn't last forever."

Reporters hector State: Is the blockade legal? What right does ...

Matt Lee of AP is on fire. Be like Matt Lee, you docile bovine seven-stomached beasts of the mainstream media, grow a pair. And it looks like other State Department reporters are emulating him. Here's the video. And here's an extended excerpt from the briefing, below. Gaza is just about the first order of business. Watch State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland squirm. She's the wife of Robert Kagan, former Principal Deputy National Security Advisor to Vice President Cheney, July 2003-May 2005. And she's in the Obama administration? What does she know, when did she know it?

Be sure to listen to Lee's genius question toward the end about Saudi Arabian women driving and breaking the law. "It seems to me that's a pretty provocative act," too, but Hillary Clinton defends them. I have to believe stuff is shaking. Oh brave flotilla, be safe and make it to Gaza!!!!

QUESTION: This morning, Victoria, you put out a statement ? or a statement went out in your name ? about the flotilla. This is the third warning in three days from this building or people in this building about this. What is the big concern here? Are you ? is there a worry that this is going ? that this may upend your efforts to get the peace talks restarted?

MS. [Victoria] NULAND: I think this just continues a year of diplomacy and public statements that we?ve had making clear that we don?t want to see a repeat of the very dangerous situation that occurred last year. So we thought it was timely to put out all in one place our views on this issue, and I do commend to all of you the very detailed statement that we put out earlier in the day.

QUESTION: Right. But is there a concern that this may have broader ? if it goes ahead, that there may be broader implications for the effort?

MS. NULAND: We have seen some warming in relations between Turkey and Israel, as we talked about I think it was on Tuesday. We want to see that effort continue. We want to see those who want to aid humanitarian situation in Gaza use the appropriate channels. There has been some progress, as the statement makes clear, in opening the way for more humanitarian aid. More humanitarian aid is getting in through legitimate channels. So we?d like to see that process continue and not have a repeat of the dangerous situation we had last summer.

QUESTION: Okay. Well, one of the things that the Secretary said yesterday in ? when ? in her comments to this was that attempts to go into Israeli waters were provocative and irresponsible. And it?s my understanding that the flotilla organizers do not intend to go into Israeli waters but in ? they will stay in international waters. Is that your understanding or is that not your understanding per what the Secretary said yesterday?

MS. NULAND: I can?t speak to the intentions of those involved in the flotilla. I think the Secretary was clear it was in response to a question yesterday --

QUESTION: Correct.

MS. NULAND: -- as you remember, so that also speaks to the fact that publicly this issue is out there, that we do not want to see the bad situation of last year repeated. We do believe that channels exist for providing humanitarian aid to Gaza in a safe and secure way and that that situation is improving. And we urge all NGOs who want to participate in that to use those channels.

QUESTION: But does a flotilla sitting in international waters off the Gaza ? off the coast of Gaza, is that a problem for the U.S.?

MS. NULAND: Again, I don?t want to get into the Law of the Sea issues here. I simply want to say that we don?t want to see a conflict at sea, on land. We want to see appropriate legitimate channels used for the --

QUESTION: I understand, but in the briefing that just preceded this --

MS. NULAND: Yes.

QUESTION: -- you talked about wanting to ? in another instance, in the South China Sea, the U.S. has been very concerned about the freedom of navigation.

MS. NULAND: Yeah.

QUESTION: And so I?m not quite sure what the U.S. problem would be with a flotilla that stays in international waters, whether it?s off the coast of Gaza or off the coast of the Philippines.

MS. NULAND: I think we?re not talking about a freedom of navigation issue. We?re talking about appropriate and safe and agreed mechanisms for delivering aid to the people of Gaza.

QUESTION: So it?s --

MS. NULAND: So I think the statement speaks for it --

QUESTION: Well, but you believe that Israel is within its rights to defend itself to take on or to prevent ships from going into international waters?

MS. NULAND: Again, I?m not going to speak to international waters, territorial waters. I?m simply saying that we are encouraging those who want to aid the people of Gaza to use the channels that have been established.

QUESTION: All right. And then was ? on the flotilla ? this is on the Middle East ? I just want to know, wondering if there?s any update on the Quartet meeting in Brussels?

MS. NULAND: Simply that they had a good meeting today, they did begin a conversation about when they?re going to meet next, and they?re looking to do that in the next few weeks. But I don?t have any specific announcements out of the Quartet today.

QUESTION: Is there ? is the thought that the next meeting would be at the principals level or is it going to be, again, at the ? at an envoy level?

MS. NULAND: I think decisions have not been made on that subject.

Yes.

QUESTION: To follow up on --

QUESTION: Just to ? this is a follow-up.

MS. NULAND: Are we on flotilla too or are we --

QUESTION: We?re on flotilla. Just to make sure, does the U.S. consider that blockade legal?

MS. NULAND: I think the main point that we were trying to make in the statement was that we?ve got to use the channels that are safe, the channels that are going to guarantee that the aid get where it needs to go to the people it?s intended for, and to discourage, in strongest terms, any actions on the high seas that could result in a conflict.

QUESTION: Right, but again, that doesn?t answer the question of the legality or the ? whether the U.S. perceives that blockade as legal or not.

MS. NULAND: I don?t have anything for you on legality here. We can take a stronger look at that if you?d like, but again, the reason that the Secretary spoke to this yesterday when she was asked, the reason that we?ve put out this very fulsome statement that points people in the correct direction, is because we want to avoid the problems of last year, and we do believe that there are good and reliable channels for getting assistance to the people of Gaza.

QUESTION: And just one more. I?m sorry. The people who are putting this together have a rather elaborate website, and they say that ? on that that the U.S. should be protecting the rights of American citizens, protecting their safety abroad. So that is the argument that they are making. They?re very disappointed and shocked that the State Department would be warning people off. What do you say to that?

MS. NULAND: It is in the interest of protecting both Americans and other citizens from around the world who might be thinking about engaging in provocative moves like this that we were putting out these warnings so strongly in the same season where we had this problem last year. We don?t want to see a repeat, and we do believe that those who want to aid Gaza can do so and need to do so in the correct manner.

Please.

QUESTION: You kept repeating that they have available to them --

MS. NULAND: Yes.

QUESTION: -- proper channels and so on. What ? could you share with us some of these proper channels?

MS. NULAND: Well, the Rafah Crossing, as you know, is open again, and we have seen an uptick in the humanitarian aid that is going through there. There are also channels through Israel, and we?ve been relatively encouraged that the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza through these appropriate channels is improving.

QUESTION: But the Rafah Crossing was only recently opened. I mean, until then, it was completely closed. So that?s one issue. And another: Could you clarify for us whether, in fact, the Gaza waters or crossing through the Gaza waters, is that legal or illegal under the Laws of the Seas and so on? Could you clarify that, please?

MS. NULAND: I think that?s the same question that Jill was asking. And I will admit to you I?m not a Law of the Sea expert here, but let me take the question.

QUESTION: Okay. And a quick follow-up on the Quartet: You said that it was a good meeting. Now what constitutes a good meeting? How was the, let?s say, the meeting today different or improved the situation from, let?s say, 24 hours ago?

MS. NULAND: Well, as you saw and as we?ve been discussing here for the course of the last week, David Hale has been involved very intensively with the parties, with the regional states. For the members of the Quartet, I think it was a chance to compare notes on diplomacy that we?ve been doing, on diplomacy that other members of the Quartet have been doing in our shared effort to get these parties back to the table. So, from that perspective, there was a lot to discuss and then to take stock of where to go next.

Please.

QUESTION: Can I do a follow-up on the flotilla?

MS. NULAND: Please, yeah.

QUESTION: My understanding is that there were a number of the Americans who planned to participate and went into your ? I believe in your Embassy in Athens and sought some advice. Can you tell us what the message to them in person was today?

MS. NULAND: I?m sure that the message to them in person was identical to the statement that we?ve put out today, that we would ask them to use established and reliable channels and to refrain from action that could lead to the kind of difficulty that we saw last year.

QUESTION: When you say that you want ? you don?t want a repeat of last year, you want people to refrain from action that could lead to the kind of difficulty that you saw last year, does that only apply to the flotilla organizers or does that also apply to Israel?

MS. NULAND: We?ve been urging all sides, whether it?s the NGOs or whether it?s governments involved, that we not have a repeat of what happened last year.

QUESTION: Right. Well --

MS. NULAND: And I think this speaks to the fact that the neighboring states that ? to Gaza have worked hard to establish legitimate mechanisms, efficient mechanisms to get aid in so that people have a way to do this other than to risk provocative action.

Please, Jill.

QUESTION: Another subject?

MS. NULAND: Anybody ? anything else on this? Lachlan?

QUESTION: Just one more on this. Yeah. I don?t think you said it, but people at the State Department have said Israel has a right to defend itself against these flotillas. What exactly would it be defending against, though? That?s what?s not clear to me.

MS. NULAND: Like all states, Israel has a right of national self-defense. Again, I don?t want to get into where the boat might be and Law of the Sea and all this kind of stuff. We are simply saying this is the wrong way to get aid to Gaza. The correct way to get aid to Gaza is through the established mechanisms which are improving, which are open, and which can get aid to the people that it?s intended for.

QUESTION: But it?s just humanitarian aid, so I don?t see why it would be ? Israel would have to defend itself if it?s just humanitarian aid coming in.

MS. NULAND: It?s the matter of all states to provide coastal defense, but I?m ? again, I?m not going to get into the Law of the Sea issues here. We?re simply trying to make the point that we want this done in a way that not only is going to get the aid where it?s intended, but is going to ensure that we don?t have dangerous incidents.

QUESTION: In general, would you say that the Administration, the U.S. Government, is ? would advise anyone against provocative acts?

MS. NULAND: I think that?s a fair point.

QUESTION: It is. Okay. So you don?t see, when the Secretary comes out in support of women who want to drive in Saudi Arabia, deliberately violating Saudi laws and regulations, that ? her support of that is ? doesn?t mean that you?re not ? I mean, I don?t understand where you ? if you?re coming out against all provocative acts, it seems to me that that?s a pretty provocative act, and yet she?s supporting that.

MS. NULAND: The Secretary was supporting the right of not only Saudi women, women around the world, to live as men do. She wasn?t encouraging any particular course of action one way or the other. She was simply making a strong public statement of empathy and support for the campaign that these women are on to have these laws changed.

QUESTION: Okay. So a provocative act in support of the Palestinians in Gaza is not okay, though?

MS. NULAND: I don?t think we are supporting provocative acts of any kind. I think you can?t equate these two issues. The Secretary was simply speaking to the aspirations of Saudi women to have the laws of their country changed. She wasn?t encouraging any particular course of action for that.

QUESTION: Okay. Let me try and put it a different way, then. You believe that because there are established ? already established means, the Israeli port where things are inspected and the Rafah Crossing, that in this case, being provocative is unnecessary and unwise because it?s just not needed; there are other ways to do it? Is that ? that?s the bottom line?

MS. NULAND: That?s certainly the case, and we don?t want further incidents. It?s not in anybody?s interest.

QUESTION: Is the regular blockade a provocative act?

MS. NULAND: I think we?ve gone as far as we?re going to go on this subject.

QUESTION: I?ll ask again. Is the naval blockade a provocative action?

MS. NULAND: We would consider it provocative and it would be dangerous to have a repeat of the situation that we saw last year.

QUESTION: But the current existing blockade, the naval blockade of Gaza, is that provocative action or is it not?

MS. NULAND: As I said, we believe that there are legitimate and efficient ways to get assistance into Gaza and that those mechanisms are working and that we?re seeing, as a result of them, an improvement in the humanitarian situation.

Jill, are we moving on now? Yeah. Thanks. Please, go ahead.

Running Pool Electric - Electrical - DIY Chatroom - DIY Home ...

Good afternoon all,

I recently installed a pool (18' above ground aluminum) with a 1.5 HP pump and need to run electric out to it. The run will be fairly short at about 50 feet. There is currently one existing conveince outlet near the pool.

My question is, can I run romex 12-3 across the attic and drop the thhn/thwn down the side of the house? My only other option that I am trying to steer clear of is ripping out a ton of mortared flagstone and concrete pad in order to bury it in conduit.

I am having an electrician do all the work, so the only work I will be doing is the trench and concrete busting if that is my only option.

Thanks for any input in advance!

Bleeding Hemorrhoids: The Actual Reason Why Most People's ...

Hemorrhoids are a problem which is very unknown to a lot of individuals. It truly is not like it is a topic that?s explained in class. Ordinarily, men and females just find out about them as soon as they commence to have issues with them themselves. This signifies that they can withstand months and months of discomfort just before even realizing that they?re experiencing piles. As soon as folks do recognize what their issue is, they usually have a number of questions for instance why a lot of folks have bleeding hemorrhoids also as others do not have a difficulty with bleeding.?

How come several men and ladies have bleeding hemorrhoids and other individuals do not? The answer to that issue isn?t necessarily a straightforward one. You will come across too many aspects included. 1 reason why piles may well wind up bleeding is if somebody had been to pass particularly sharp stool. When that takes location, it may well virtually cut the pile on the way out, producing bleeding hemorrhoids.?

This doesn?t basically specify the state of the pile itself, but rather is comparable to when 1 cuts her or his finger. The finger is just gonna bleed for a bit just just before it heals up. The distinction is bleeding hemorrhoids won?t specifically heal also as a finger that has been cut only mainly because they?re already swollen. They?re working challenging on healing their problems already which doesn?t leave a good deal left for healing the cut that causes the bleeding.?

Sharp stool just isn?t all which will result in bleeding hemorrhoids. Occasionally, the piles advance so significantly that they are just merely too weakened to be able to maintain firm. They are able to split under strained pressure of simply infection and also this usually implies that the piles have advanced fairly somewhat. When a vein is unhealthy enough to genuinely split along with bleed on its own that signifies that some thing ought to be carried out to mend the bleeding hemorrhoids. They are too far advanced to be able to just take care of themselves.?

So what can or really should you do to manage bleeding hemorrhoids? Search for natural options which are identified for their advantageous effects upon the veins and blood. Stone Root, as an example, is frequently a natural herb which is recognized for building up veins. Butcher?s broom is great to stop bleeding, also. These kinds of components are precisely what are required to deal with an dilemma like yours. It really is possible to locate them in particular hemorrhoid treatments or even at your local wellness food market.?

Chris Brown Latest Celeb To Apologize For Using Gay Slur

Cee Lo Green, Tracy Morgan and Blake Shelton have also issued mea culpas recently for seemingly homophobic comments.
By Gil Kaufman

On Wednesday, Chris Brown became the latest celebrity to apologize to the LGBT community for using a gay slur in anger. The singer issued a Twitter mea culpa for an incident on Tuesday in which he lashed out at several photographers in Los Angeles whom he believed had tipped off parking-enforcement officers to his illegally parked car, saying, "Y'all n---as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y'all n---as is gay!"

The comments came just days after comedian Tracy Morgan met with LGBT youth in New York following his anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up appearance, which earned the "30 Rock" star widespread scorn from the gay community for his seeming advocacy of violence against gay youth.

The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ that "invoking words to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable ... Brown should know better."

Brown, who has made outrageous digital comments before — including a homophobic attack on former B2K singer Raz B in December — only to ask forgiveness for them a short time later, issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing, "I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it."

A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached for comment at press time.

Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), told MTV News that while it may seem like this kind of casual homophobia is on the rise, what we're seeing might simply be a result of the increasingly interconnected nature of our society. "People are being filmed while getting a parking ticket and commenting on Twitter and there's more opportunity for the things celebrities say to reach the public," he said. "But I think celebrities and people in the public eye are also increasingly cognizant that they have to respect all of their fans, and when things happen, they have an interest in correcting that behavior."

Brown is certainly not alone in using words that may hurt some of his fans. Two members of the celebrity judging panel on NBC's hit reality singing show "The Voice" have also issued apologies recently for using anti-gay slurs. After a performance with Rihanna in Minneapolis last week, Cee Lo Green posted a Twitter response to a negative review by critic Andrea Swensson, writing, "I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f--- you!"

After the rant went viral, Green issued a public apology, telling Us Weekly, "I most certainly am not harboring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community. I don't have an opinion on people with different religious, sexual or political preferences," said Green, who added that he assumed the critic would understand that his comments were "all in good fun" and that he didn't mean any harm. "I'm one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on 'The Voice' are proud and outspokenly gay. We just did a team performance of 'Everyday People,' and I picked that song for us to do specifically to highlight how we can get along even though we're so different."

Similarly, fellow judge Blake Shelton landed in hot water last month when he tweeted the comment, "Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song ... Any man that tries touching my behind he's gonna be a beaten, bleedin', heaving kind of guy." The original lyrics are, "Any man of mine better walk the line/ Better show me a teasin', squeezin', pleasin' kinda time." GLAAD weighed in, suggesting that Shelton's comments sounded like a threat against any man who took a pass at him and demanded an apology.

Shelton quickly recanted in a series of tweets, writing, "Hey y'all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night ... It honestly wasn't even meant that way... I now know that [there] are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere ... But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings ... I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!"

After communicating with GLAAD, Shelton posted this final tweet: "@glaad hey I want my fans and @nbcthevoice fans to know that anti-gay and lesbian violence is unacceptable!!!!! Help me!!!! And DM me.."

Graddick said that with an American public that is more supportive of gay people than ever, not to mention more aware of the impact of harmful language, for better or worse, celebrities are often looked to to set the standard for acceptable behavior. "I think that language can be homophobic and people can as well," he said. "I'm not going to judge the intent of what [Brown] was saying; he was clearly pissed about a parking ticket. But his intent is less important than the actual impact. When people hear other people use the kind of language that makes 'gay' equivalent to 'bad,' it communicates a message, and it's important that people are aware of that. I don't think every time anyone has spoken those words their personal viewpoint is homophobic, but the impact can be damaging."

The string of public anti-gay slurs has also included a number of sports figures, such as Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was fined $100,000 for yelling anti-gay slurs at a referee in April, and the Chicago Bulls' Joakim Noah, who was fined $50,000 in May for directing an anti-gay slur at a fan during game three of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Share your thoughts on the recent celebrity anti-gay slurs in the comments.

Patti Stanger: Jennifer Aniston "Not a Good Picker"

Jennifer Aniston's relationship with Justin Theroux is generating a lot of attention. The Millionaire Matchmaker, Patii Stanger, is the latest to chime in.

Not in the most glowing fashion, either.

"I like him for her. I think he’s a good fit for her," she told TooFab of Aniston's new man, but she has concerns over the whole Heidi Bivens situation.

"How you get a guy is how you lose a guy," she said, referring to Theroux's 14-year relationship with his ex, and Jen allegedly pulling an Angelina.

Justin Theroux PhotoPatti Stanger PictureLoneliness

"He was like, 'Bye! You were my training wheels. Now I'm going off to get my real Schwinn.' I mean what IS that? She's not a great picker, really."

"She had John Mayer. C'mon, let's be serious."

Hard to argue with her regarding that douche.

As for reports of Aniston and Theroux moving in together, the Bravo star says, "That's too soon. That's way too 'I wanna marry you' creepy."

"And she needs to think long and hard about that. She makes way more money, there better be a pre-nup. He needs to court her first."

Warsaw airport hosts Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AP)

WARSAW, Poland ? Hundreds of airplane enthusiasts have hoisted binoculars to the skies to watch the Boeing 787 Dreamliner make its first landing at Warsaw's Frederic Chopin airport.

The airplane arrived directly from its showcase at the Paris Air Show. Warsaw is the first commercial airport in Europe to host it.

Poland's LOT was Europe's first airline to purchase the Dreamliner, with the first of eight on order to arrive mid-April.

The 787 is the first mid-size plane capable of flying long-range routes, which will allow airlines to open new, non-stop flights.

Boeing literature says the 787 is fuel- and cost-efficient thanks to the use of advanced aerodynamics, modern engines, composite materials and highly electric systems.

Japan's All Nippon Airways will be the first to put the airline to commercial use ? this summer.

Serena rallies for another 3-set win at Wimbledon (AP)

WIMBLEDON, England ? Defending champion Serena Williams recovered from a poor start to defeat Simona Halep 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 Thursday and move into the third round of Wimbledon, staying on course for a fifth title.

After dropping the first set, Williams regained her renowned intensity and powerful shot-making to dominate the rest of the way on Court 2. The winner of 13 Grand Slam singles titles is still searching for her form after a yearlong absence because of injuries and health issues.

There were no tears this time from Williams, who sobbed with relief Monday after winning her opening match on Centre Court against Aravane Rezai.

"I'm just happy to be playing and hopefully I'll get better as the tournament goes on," Williams said. "It was a little windy out there and I just was a little tight, so I just got to relax and enjoy myself more."

Williams wasn't happy about playing out on Court 2, rather than Centre Court or Court 1. Her sister, five-time champion Venus, played her first-round match on Court 2. Their two other matches were on Centre Court.

"They like to put us on Court 2, me and Venus, for whatever reason," Serena said. "I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe one day we'll figure it out. I don't know."

Williams said top male players, such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, are "never moved across" to the outside court.

The Williams sisters have combined to win nine of the last 11 Wimbledon singles titles.

"Actually Venus and I have won more Wimbledons together than a lot of the players or by ourselves in doubles even," she said. "At the end of the day, I don't know.

"They're not going to change, doesn't look like," Williams said, referring to All England Club organizers.

Told of Williams' comments, tournament spokesman Johnny Perkins said there was no intentional snub.

"I don't think it's anything deliberate, clearly," he told The Associated Press. "It's a hugely complex jigsaw puzzle. Everyone probably looks at it from their own point of view, so she's obviously quite entitled to (her opinion). ... We obviously have a duty to the paying public, plus the international audiences around the world."

From 4-2 in the second set, the seventh-seeded American won eight out of the last nine games to re-establish her supremacy on the grass at the All England Club, pumping a clenched fist and shouting "Come on!" after smacking key winners.

It was the fourth consecutive three-setter Williams has played since returning last week at the Eastbourne grass-court tournament. She had been out for nearly a year after two foot operations and blood clots in her lungs.

"I guess I just want to play longer matches because I can get more practice," she said.

In men's play, second-seeded Novak Djokovic swept into the third round by defeating South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Court 1. The Serb has won his opening two rounds in straight sets after his 43-match winning streak was ended by Roger Federer in the French Open semifinals.

"On the important moments, I served well, I played well and I returned really, really well today," said Djokovic, who has twice reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and will take over the No. 1 ranking if he makes the final this year. "In the first week, you have to stay focused. You're playing lower-ranked players with nothing to lose. It's just great to win two straight-set matches."

In a dramatic five-setter that lasted nearly four hours, No. 5 Robin Soderling rallied to overcome 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-7 (5), 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 under the Centre Court roof.

The two-time French Open finalist broke Hewitt at love in the final game and dropped to his knees in exhilaration after the Australian slapped a forehand into the net on match point.

The 30-year-old Hewitt, whose career has been dogged by injuries, went up a break at 2-1 in the decisive set but couldn't hold on against the Swede.

Hewitt made at least three diving backhands during the match, two at the net and one running pass in the first set in which he rolled over after flicking the ball down the line to break serve.

"We had many matches in the past, and I think this was the best we ever played," Soderling said.

A day after throwing his shoes in frustration, 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro won 18 of 23 games Thursday to reach the third round with a 6-7 (7), 6-1, 6-0, 6-4 win over Olivier Rochus. At 6-foot-6 (1.98 meters), Del Potro stood about a foot taller than his Belgian opponent.

After the match was suspended by darkness after the first set Wednesday, an angry Del Potro took his shoes off and tossed one out of the stadium and the other deep into the crowd. When the 24th-seeded Argentine came back out onto Court 2 on Thursday, he dominated, winning 12 of the first 13 games.

As usual, Williams used her big serve to control the match. She had seven aces, won 88 percent of points on her first serve and smacked a 114 mph service winner to end the match.

Williams finished with 34 winners and 19 unforced errors, nine in the first set.

The 19-year-old Halep, making her Wimbledon debut, came out firing from the start and wasn't awed or intimidated by the occasion or her famous opponent.

With Williams spraying unforced errors, Halep played solidly and moved out to leads of 4-1 and 5-2. The Romanian tumbled awkwardly on the baseline in the seventh game, and received treatment on her left leg during the changeover. She came out and held serve, with Williams yanking a backhand wide on set point.

Williams lifted her game in the second set and won the first three games to take command. She displayed her emotions in the fifth game when, after wrong-footing Halep with a forehand winner, shrieked "Come on!" and crouched down with her fist clenched.

On set point, after a long hard-hitting baseline rally, Williams smacked a running forehand that clipped the netcord and dropped over for a winner. Again, she clenched her fist and said "Yes!" before holding up her hand and saying "Sorry" in keeping with tennis etiquette.

Williams went ahead 5-0 in the third set but squandered three set points before serving out the match in the seventh game.

Also advancing were sixth-seeded Francesca Schiavone, who downed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-5, 6-3; No. 12 Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 6-0, 6-2; and 18th-seeded and former No. 1-ranked Ana Ivanovic, a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Eleni Daniilidou.

Day 4 started in bright sunshine, although showers were in the forecast. The tournament was about a dozen matches behind schedule because of rain delays over the first three days.

Anticipating possible rain, organizers closed the Centre Court roof for fifth-seeded Robin Soderling's match against 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt. They were to be followed by French Open champion Li Na of China against Sabine Lisicki and six-time winner Roger Federer against Adrian Mannarino of France.

The Court 1 schedule featured matches involving Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 2004 champion Maria Sharapova.

Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki is scheduled to play on Court 2 against Virginie Razzano.
