Genealogy workshop planned in July ? Family Tree Gazette

Oceanus Hopkins Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Kansas Society DAR will sponsor a genealogy workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 at the Pittsburg Public Library.

Open to the public, the workshop will provide assistance for beginners wanting to start tracing their lineage back to the American Revolutionary War.? Ideas of where to search next and methods of documenting information will be shared.

DAR membership is open to any woman 18 or older who lineally descends from a patriot or soldier of the American Revolution.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., DAR is a volunteer women?s service organization, promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism, whose members lineally descend from a patriot of the American Revolution. The organization is non-profit and non-political, promoting God, home and country.

There are more than 3,000 chapters in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. International chapters are located in Australia, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.

This will be a one-on-one workshop and space will be limited. Those wishing to attend and interested in becoming a DAR member should make reservations no later than July 18 by calling 620-231-6961 or e-mailing carolduercochran@kc.rr.com with the subject DAR-Pittsburg. Those attending should bring any family information and documentation they have already obtained.
