Fortunately, for the average motorcycle owner, repairs don?t always have to involve a trip to the auto repair shop.

Much of the maintenance and basic repairs can be done at home with only a small number of tools.

Wrenches
This is one tool type that will be essential for work on your bike. Combination wrenches are recommended, especially for those who are trying to maintain a small tool box. Sizes 6mm through 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm are the most commonly needed wrenches and should be considered for the starter?s tool kit.

Screw Drivers
One can never have too many screw drivers. There are so many to be chosen from, which vary in size, type, and length. The more your toolbox welcomes, the merrier, and this includes straight heads, Phillips heads, Allen wrenches, Torex, and Square heads.

Impact Driver
Impact drivers provide the necessary torque needed to remove screws that are very tightly in place. There are two common sizes of impact driver ? ?? and 3/8?. They can be used with screw driver- or socket bits. A quick hit on the end of the impact driver with a hammer after it has been turned will set the tightest screws loose.

Sockets
They come in many sizes, but are very useful. The good news is that they can be purchased in large sets at a rather inexpensive price. Generally the 6 point sockets are most useful for motor cycle owners, as opposed to 8- and 12- point varieties. Of course, you will also need socket wrenches to use the bits.
